The last quarter has seen significant progress and activity. The existing basement areas have been backfilled with concrete allowing heavy machinery onto site. The foundations to the fifteen arched viaducts have been exposed and removed under supervision and instruction by Network Rail. Night works are on-going with the installation of protection screens which will allow further demolition works to take place. New entrances from Royal Mint Street have been consented and installed allowing construction vehicles alternative access points. All pile matting has been completed, rigs on site and piling works currently underway in order to complete the encapsulation works. At each and every stage, consents have to be obtained by the authorities including Network Rail and Dockland Light Railways, an extremely frustrating and difficult process but one that cannot be avoided.
